£670k culture recovery investment will save jobs in West Dorset

  • MP says this is a real boost for the future of West Dorset’s cultural heritage

Chris Loder MP says that this week’s announcement by the Culture Secretary, with unprecedented support for West Dorset through the Government’s Culture Recovery Fund, will save jobs and preserve the future of local cultural and arts initiatives.

The awards are part of the Government’s £1.57 billion investment in UK culture, launched to help Britain’s globally renowned arts, culture and heritage industries including smaller regional enterprises in West Dorset.

Chris Loder says: “This is a real boost for our cultural heritage in West Dorset and will help save jobs and secure the future for these eight organisations and projects. I’m particularly pleased that smaller initiatives and charities such as community archaeology company Past Participate, Stuff and Nonsense Theatre Company and Dorchester Arts have been recognised alongside our historic cultural sites, such as Mapperton House.

“Local museums, at the very heart of our heritage, have also benefited with funding for Bridport Museum Trust, Dorset County Museum, Lyme Regis Museum and The Shire Hall in Dorchester. The Government is listening to our needs here and I hope this investment will help these local organisations to come back stronger as they recover from the impact of coronavirus.”
