Chris Loder, MP for West Dorset, visited Broadwindsor’s White Lion Inn on Friday 3rd November. The multi-award winning community pub, which opened in April 2022, is an integral asset of the village and is managed by Kerry and Clive Dammert. Mr Loder’s visit followed the recent Government introduction of new Alcohol Duty system. Speaking about his visit, Mr Loder said:
“The White Lion Inn at Broadwindsor is a real success story: it is a striking example of what can be achieved when communities come together. I’m particularly pleased to have discussed on my visit the Government’s recent reforms to the Alcohol Duty system, which has introduced specific lower rates for smaller pubs selling certain alcoholic products. In addition, and on behalf of all small businesses in West Dorset, I’ll be raising with the Treasury the need to reform the VAT threshold. Currently, a small business can turnover £85,000 before paying VAT. But in reality, this threshold should be higher to cultivate more economic growth and entrepreneurship in West Dorset. Small businesses are the backbone of West Dorset, and I’ll do all I can to support them.”
