On the 19th October, Chris Loder, MP for West Dorset, visited the latest section upgraded by Network Rail on the Heart of Wessex Line. A considerable stretch of track between Maiden Newton and Grimstone was renewed throughout the week – the first time since the 1950s, with the Line reopening on Saturday 21st October. Speaking about his visit, Mr Loder said:
“When I was first elected, I commenced my campaign to improve the Heart of Wessex Line and it’s been great see yet another newly-upgraded piece of the line complete as part of a £1.5 million investment package by Network Rail to improve reliability and modernise infrastructure on throughout West Dorset. Last October, Yetminster Station platform was resurfaced; and in February this year, 2,000 yards of track were upgraded through Thornford Station.”
He added: “The Heart of Wessex Line connects West Dorset towns and villages to Bristol, Bath and Weymouth. And I shall continue with this campaign until we have I’m very grateful to Network Rail and Great Western Railway for continuing to support our rail infrastructure in West Dorset.”
