Chris Loder, MP for West Dorset, has expressed his support for a consultation launched today that will tackle youth vaping. The consultation asks questions about the Government’s proposals to ensure the balance is right between protecting children and supporting adult smokers to quit. The consultation runs closes on the 6th December at 11:59pm.
Mr Loder said: “While vapes are an effective tool for adult smokers to quit, they are the gateway tool for young smokers. It might seem like a novelty, but youth vaping carries a considerable risk of harm and addition, and it has worryingly increased in popularity over the last few years. It’s storing up a considerable amount of health problems for the future; I’d like to see the implementation of a vaping age at 18, just like we have with the smoking age.”
He continued: “The Government’s consultation is asking for views on the restrictions on vape flavours and packaging, and the restriction on the supply and sale of disposable vapes. I would encourage constituents to respond to the consultation, especially if they have children.”
