On the 31st July, Chris Loder, MP for West Dorset, visited Hazelmead, the UK’s largest cohousing development, situated in Bridport. Hazelmead offers 53 affordable eco-homes for sale and rent to individuals and families in the Bridport area – 26 are for Social Rent, and 13 for Shared Ownership.
Mr Loder met with current residents and those involved in bringing the development to fruition since the idea was floated back in 2008. The local MP attended along with the Mayor of Bridport, and representatives from Dorset Council and Bridport Cohousing CLT, and Bournemouth Churches Housing Association (BCHA). Speaking about the event, Mr Loder said:
“After 15 years, it is fantastic to see Hazelmead finally come to fruition. I have followed this development closely over the last few years and have witnessed the construction of the properties, which will provide much-needed affordable housing for local residents.”
He continued: “This pioneering development enables people to get onto the property ladder who might not normally be able to. My predecessor, Sir Oliver Letwin, was actively involved in ensuring the success of the development, and I am glad that it has finally been delivered.”
