West Dorset MP Chris Loder has challenged the Government on the unfair situation faced by young people across rural Britain who have to pay for bus travel to their sixth form colleges, whilst this is not the case for many young people in urban areas.
Mr Loder spoke out at a debate in the House of Commons chamber on the 9th November relating to levelling up rural Britain. When asking for fairness in terms of Government support for rural Dorset, Mr Loder stated that young people in West Dorset have to pay to get to school on the bus, whilst not in many urban areas.
Speaking after the speech, Mr Loder said; “When Dorset is such a large county, many young people have to travel many miles to get to their nearest sixth form college, with many from West Dorset having to travel as far as Yeovil or Exeter at great expense to get to college. We need to see fairness young people here in rural areas who should have the same opportunities as those in London or other cities where the fare is free to travel for compulsory education.”
