West Dorset MP Chris Loder has welcomed a revamp of Yetminster railway station’s platform after lobbying Great Western Railway to sort out its deteriorating surface, which he identified as being of a risk to pushchairs or disabled rail users.
Mr Loder said: “I have always taken the accessability of West Dorset’s railway stations incredibly seriously, and I am leaving no stone unturned when it comes to making sure every station is as user friendly as possible, which is why I am pleased that Great Western Railway has taken my concerns on board and acting on them.”
Mr Loder visited the much improved station during a summit with Network Rail and Great Western Railway on Friday 30th September, in which the MP was shown the improvements he called for, as well as to discuss the additional improvements to the Heart of Wessex Line from Yeovil Pen Mill to Dorchester West. The track renewals Network Rail have undertaken throughout the recent period of line closure is expected to boost the efficiency of the train services to Dorchester West, as well as improved journey times in the future.
Mr Loder continued; “I have undertaken a relentless campaign of lobbying for improvements to the Heart of Wessex line, especially from Yeovil to Dorchester. I am pleased to see Network Rail taking this vital line seriously and are embarking on substantial improvements to enhance its service for rail users even more.”
