Chris Loder, MP for West Dorset, has secured critical speed reduction measures for Mosterton, following a fatal crash last February. From mid-May 2024, a new ‘buffer’ speed limit on the northern side of the village will be operational.
Signs will be visible to motorists entering from the northern side of the village, where a section of road - currently at 60 mph - will be reduced to 40 mph, before the current 30 mph limit starts.
The announcement follows the instalment by Dorset’s Police and Crime Commissioner of an Auto Speed Watch Camera in Mosterton as part of a new initiative to combat speeding in the county. The camera captures speeding drivers and sends a “no excuse” letter; should the vehicle be detected a second time, there will be a uniformed intervention.
Commenting on the measures, Mr Loder said: “I’m pleased that both Dorset Council and Dorset Police have listened to my representations to improve road safety in Mosterton and have responded with meaningful solutions. I’d also like to thank Mosterton parish councillors and all those villagers who have championed the road safety cause. We can expect the speed reduction buffer to be operational from the end of next month.”
