Chris Loder, MP for West Dorset, has today launched his campaign to save the West Dorset arm of the Ring and Ride bus service which also operates in East Devon. The vital service, which is at risk of closure if Dorset Council cannot provide the funding, serves over thirty villages in rural West Dorset and provides transport for shopping, leisure, cultural and social activities. The local MP has written to Adrian Glover, Public Transport Manager of Dorset Council, to request an update on the current situation. In his letter, Mr Loder has asked Mr Glover to provide an overview of what contingencies are in place and what other options exist. Speaking about his new campaign, Mr Loder said:
“The West Dorset Ring & Ride bus service is vital for connectivity and is an affordable option for those residents who live in remote villages without access to public transport, and/or are disabled or have limited mobility. Many constituents have told me of their fear that this will lead to isolation, in that this is their only form of transport – it is a lifeline. I’ll be looking closely for options over the next few weeks to do all I can to keep this very important service.”
