Today, Chris met with the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, and discussed the condition of the railway line from Dorchester to Weymouth, following Prime Ministers Questions in the House of Commons. The discussion included summer Saturday services to the coast from Sherborne and Gillingham.
The discussion with the Prime Minister follows a rail summit organised by Chris along with South Dorset MP, Richard Drax, and rail chiefs of Network Rail and South Western Railway on 9th April at Weymouth station to get action for the extraordinarily poor condition of our rail stations in Dorchester and Weymouth and to make sure they are fit for purpose.
Our stations in Dorchester and Weymouth are in a disgusting state and it’s about time we got them sorted out, especially as summer is coming and we want to welcome as many people as possible in our coronavirus recovery effort.
All parties have committed to look at options for work to take place as soon as possible, including the refurbishment of Weymouth Station, the demolition of the disused parcels facility at Dorchester South and the resurrection of a quality boundary fence between the railway line and Monmouth Road, Dorchester.
