Chris Loder MP has welcomed the news that West Dorset bus services are set to benefit from a share of £884, 221 awarded to Dorset Council as part the Government’s Bus Service Improvement Plan + (BSIP+).
Speaking about the funding allocation, Mr Loder commented: “Our bus services in West Dorset are so important, as they provide connectivity for our towns and villages. This funding has the potential to sustain bus routes, especially for those residents living in rural areas; only recently did I unveil a new bus route in the Chalk Valleys, and I am working hard to improve our bus services and connectivity.”
He added: “We’ve already seen the benefit the £2 bus fare cap has had: the average fare has dropped by 10.8% in rural parts of England. Other initiatives like this have a tangible benefit on day-to-day living, and I’ll be urging Dorset Council to maximise the benefit of our share of this investment in West Dorset.”
