West Dorset’s MP Chris Loder has concluded a long-running campaign for a disabled access ramp at Dorchester West Station by seeing the completed ramp at an opening ceremony today.

Mr Loder said: “I was very pleased to be able to be here to see this much needed ramp open and believe it is testament to the hard work put into the campaign to secure it as a priority for railway infrastructure investment. I have argued since my election that Dorchester West, in my view one of West Dorset’s flagship train stations, has got to be accessible for all. It was simply not acceptable that disabled passengers should have to board a train to Weymouth in order to be able to travel northbound”

This opening comes weeks before Mr Loder is due to be in attendance at the COP26 climate summit at the end of the month, where he will be arguing the case for more efficient rural public transport

Mr Loder continued; “in order for people to want to use public transport as a means of combating climate change, it first needs to be accessible.  I hope this vital improvement to the accessibility of our railway network will be a good first step, and I will continue putting on the pressure to ensure our other forms of public transport, such as buses, better serve the people of West Dorset.”
