Chris Loder MP has welcomed a major campaign success as Church Cliff Beach in Lyme Regis has officially been re-designated as a bathing beach. It follows campaigning by West Dorset’s MP to improve the ecological and environmental status of Church Cliff Beach, working closely with DEFRA, South West Water, and local residents.

Mr Loder said: “It’s excellent news that Church Cliff Beach has been redesignated as a bathing beach, which will bring innumerable benefits to the local community and economy over the coming months. I’ve worked closely with DEFRA to help secure redesignation; in March, the Water Minister visited West Dorset to better understand the importance of redesignation.”

He added: “I’d like to thank all those local residents, organisations, businesses and bathers who have contributed to DEFRA’s consultations on the matter. It’s great to see that we have secured this, and I look forward to Church Cliff Beach once again becoming a destination for our bathers.”

Church Cliff Beach is one of 27 new bathing sites across the country designated ahead of the 2024 bathing season, which runs between 30th May and 30th September 2024.
