West Dorset’s MP Chris Loder visited Nationwide’s Bridport branch on the 19th May to commemorate the building society’s 50 years of continued service in the town. Mr Loder met with staff at the branch and was given an overview of how the building society has helped its local members and Nationwide’s commitment to remain on the high street.
Over 35,000 members in West Dorset receive financial services provided by Nationwide and over 2,000 of those are mortgage holders. Additionally, in 2021-2022, Nationwide lent £11.9 million to first time buyers in West Dorset. Mr Loder said:
“In a climate when banks are withdrawing from our towns and high streets, Nationwide has bucked the trend, with branches in Bridport, Dorchester, Weymouth, Blandford, Yeovil Crewkerne, Chard and Axminster. The Bridport branch has provided 50 years of continued service to the people of Bridport and the surrounding areas, thanks in part to its robust business model and popularity. I would encourage constituents to consider Nationwide given their commitment to stay on our high streets."
