West Dorset’s MP Chris Loder attended the Prime Minister’s ‘Farm to Fork’ summit on the morning of the 16th of May. The summit brought together representatives from across the whole UK supply chain, including farmers and food producers.

Several measures were agreed at the summit, including £12.5 million for environmental sustainability and farming resilience research projects, and £5.6 million additional investment to boost exports of great British food around the world. There will also be new reviews in the autumn into the eggs and horticulture sector, ensuring fair payment for produce. Referencing the summit, Mr Loder said:

"In West Dorset, 91% of our land use is agricultural. Farming and agriculture play a significant role in our local economy and our way of life, and I am pleased that the Prime Minister has taken such an interest in the importance of each stage of the supply chain from ‘Farm to Fork’.”

Mr Loder continued: “I am particularly pleased of the announcement of a review into the eggs sector. Only late last year did I highlight the challenges faced by those working in the egg production industry in West Dorset, and I hope that the review will account for the difficulties producers have recently faced”
