In Westminster, I returned to Parliament after recess on 1st September, with an immediate focus on the Fisheries Bill in which I was called to speak.
Leaving the Common Fisheries Policy will enable our island nation to put more British-caught fish on our tables; which is good for our health, good for our economy and good for our coastal fishing towns like Lyme Regis and West Bay, home to 24 fishing vessels.
This pandemic has demonstrated the value of local producers and growers stepping up to feed our communities, never more so than in West Dorset. This has increasingly led to consumers wanting to support what’s produced in their nation’s fields and seas. The benefits locally, and to Britain as a whole, as we move on from a policy that has limited the access of British fishermen to their own fishing waters for over 40 years, is immense.
